TiVo: Series 1 or Series 2
So, now that I FINALLY got digital cable, I want to get a TiVo. I am back and forth on if I should get a Series 1 or a Series 2. The way I look at it:
Series 1: Able to do hacking on it, can log in and change things, have to buy one used.
Series 2: Newer, features still getting added, etc.
What are people's thoughts on this? Lukas and I have been discussing this a lot lately and I keep going back and forth on my decision.

Tivo is the sweet nectar of the Goddess!
I have a Series 1 that I recently modified. It now has a 120GB drive and pulls its programming off of the Internet (via added NIC card). The only thing I would like it to do would be scheduling over the Internet. Sure there is an add-on for that, but there are mixed answers regarding unit stability.
I am sure that there are people trying to figure out how to hack the Series 2 boxes - it i only a matter of time before they succeed to the same level as with the Series 1.
I'm going to wait awhile before I upgrade to a new box

go with series 2 is my suggestion.wanna know why? if you go with series 1 yes it will be good but then after some time goes by then you'll sit there and you'll think to yourself.mmm I bet series 2 has this and this and then you will wish you had went with that.
see doesn't that make sense??
well if it doesn't it's because I haven't any coffee yet and stop laughing at me dang it! :)

I would go with a series two if money is no problem...series two is a little faster and has better upgrade options...however, series two requires you to always have the tivo service to use it.
series one is at a great price right now, and upgrading is so easy, if you don't want to pay for the service, you can use it as a stand alone recorder...

I have a Series 1 TIVO and have purchased the lifetime option for programming. My questions are twofold:
1: Can I get my TIVO upgraded to act like a series two without having to buy another lifetime membership for $299?
2: I have just signed up for a cable internet connection and would like to get rid of my home phone line. Can a Series 1 box be altered to be able to recieve updates using the cable modem?

I've had a directivo series 1 unit for about 4 years now. Unfortunitly the second lnb has stopped working. Is there away for me to copy the recordings from this unit to a new directivo series 2 unit?

I just got a TiVo series 2 for Christmas and am loving it! I just have one question:
When I change channels on it, it's much slower than it used to be when I just had Comcast digital cable. Is there any way I can make TiVo's live TV work a little faster?
